Year One visit to the Attenborough Arboretum
Year One had enjoyable and interesting visits to the Attenborough Arboretum where they took part in a Woodland Activity Day. They learnt how to identify different trees, make a tree passport and how to identify different minibeasts and pond creatures. At the end of a busy and exciting day they listened to a story under the story tree.
Year One have been learning about Uganda. We were very lucky to watch a slide slow and listen to a visiting speaker talking about Uganda. The children really enjoyed listening to the talk and learned lots of interesting facts. They also asked our visitor lots of questions such as “How much rain do you have in Uganda?” and “Have you been bitten by a mosquito?!”
View the projects.
Parents are invited to come to school to visit Yr 1 and 2 classrooms to view the projects that they have been asked to complete for their homework. On the Wednesday 17th December at 3.30pm.
As part of our topic on Animals, the children enjoyed a visit from Zoolab where the children learnt how to classify some interesting animals.
In Year 1 children do phonics work everyday for 20 minutes. Children are taught in whole class groups apart from children who are new to English who are taught in smaller groups at the appropriate level.
Children follow the Oxford reading tree and read to their teacher every week and change their book. Please read with your child at home as this will improve their reading.
The website below is the one that children use in school.
