On Thursday 12th November 2015, the top 4 mathematicians in year 6 (the top two boys and girls): Hafsa, Umar, Amina and Idris went to Explore Learning Centre in Highcross to compete in a maths competition. In round 1 we were focusing on centred square numbers and challenges based on this. Using our mathematical knowledge, we tackled all 6 challenges to get through to the semi-final (round 2).
On Wednesday 25th November 2015, we went once again to Explore Learning Centre to take on the new challenges. This challenge was based on dice stairs which had certain rules. Although we only attempted challenge one, we found 10 different ways to make the stairs. We tried our hardest and stretched our brains to the limits.
Only five schools from England went through to the final which is being held at Cambridge University. Unfortunately we haven’t made it through to the final but we had a great experience throughout this event.
